Body Hair Transplant (BHT) relocates follicles from the chest, back, arms, or legs to the scalp when scalp donor supply is insufficient.

When It's Considered

  • Advanced hair loss (Norwood 6-7) where the scalp donor area can't meet the graft need
  • Patients whose scalp donor area has already been largely used by previous transplants

Limitations

  • Body hair generally has a finer caliber and shorter anagen phase than scalp hair, so transplanted body hair may not grow as long or may feel different in texture.
  • Growth angle and cycle differ from scalp hair, so it's typically used for "filler" purposes rather than in highly visible areas like the hairline.
  • Extraction is done one hair at a time, making it time-intensive and generally requiring specially trained, experienced surgeons.
Realistic expectation: BHT is not a full substitute for scalp hair โ€” it's typically combined with existing scalp grafts to boost overall density.
