Revision surgery is a secondary procedure aimed at improving the outcome of a prior transplant or correcting its mistakes.
Common Reasons for Revision
- The artificial, "clumped" look of older "hair plug" (large, thick graft) techniques
- Grafts placed at the wrong angle/direction
- A widened or prominent FUT scar
- Insufficient density or an asymmetric hairline
- Visible thinning from over-harvesting the donor area
Revision Approaches
FUE grafts can be placed into scar tissue to camouflage an FUT scar (sometimes supported by scalp micropigmentation, SMP). Misplaced grafts can occasionally be removed and repositioned, though this is a highly delicate procedure with limited success rates.
Be realistic: Revision surgery is usually more complex than the original procedure because the donor area has already been partially used. The best "revision" is choosing the right clinic the first time.
