Turkey, particularly Istanbul, hosts more international hair transplant patients than any other country in the world.

Why Turkey?

  • Price advantage: Comparable-quality service at a fraction of Western European/US cost.
  • Experience and volume: High patient volume has let many surgeons accumulate large caseloads quickly.
  • All-inclusive packages: Lodging, VIP transfers, and interpretation are commonly bundled in.

What to Watch For

High patient volume can also drive "assembly-line" practices at some clinics. ISHRS has documented Istanbul clinics performing up to 40 surgeries a day, with a surgeon absent for some of them. In Turkey, only licensed physicians (dermatologists, plastic surgeons, general surgeons) are legally permitted to perform surgical incisions/procedures; technicians taking on this role is illegal but can occur in practice due to lax oversight.

Recommendation: When choosing a clinic, focus not just on price but on the surgeon's identity, whether the facility is licensed by Turkey's Ministry of Health, and a clear guarantee of who will actually perform the procedure.
