The first week is the most visible and hands-on phase of recovery.

Days 1-2

Mild oozing, redness, and swelling around the forehead/eyes may begin. Swelling typically peaks around day 3.

Days 3-5

Swelling recedes and thin scabs begin forming around the grafts. Itching is common during this period but should never be scratched โ€” that can dislodge grafts.

Days 6-7

Scabs begin naturally shedding; the donor area appears largely healed. The clinic's first recommended professional wash usually happens around or before this point.

First-week rules: Avoid direct sun exposure, stay away from sweat-inducing exercise, be mindful of head position on the pillow (some surgeons recommend sleeping face-up for the first few nights), and don't apply any product to the scalp without clinic approval.
